Georgian Citrine, Pearl and Garnet Miniature Comet Brooch. C.1835.

£0.00 GBP

Georgian citrine, pearl and garnet miniature comet brooch. C.1835.

A wonderful rare delicate Georgian citrine, pearl and garnet miniature comet brooch. Circa 1835.

The brooch is made up of a cluster with a central foil backed oval citrine surrounded by natural pearls. To create the ‘comet’ shape a split flared bar with detailed Repoussé work joins a round almandine garnet held in a fine claw setting.

Measurements: 21mm x 12mm (Cluster)
Garnet Measures - 4mm in Diameter
Brooch Weight: 2.0g

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A VERY SMALL BROOCH

Though all the settings and adjoining metal work are in gold (18ct) the ‘C’ clasp and the pin appear not to be.

Comet Brooches where made by jewellers to celebrate the 1st sighting of Halley’s Comet in 1835. Because of their symbolism, history and variety they have their own following within ‘Georgian Period Jewellery’ and so are also very collectable.

Dan says: “Pound for pound one of my best finds to date. What it lacks in size is made up for in age, history and quality.”

Condition: The settings are immaculate, the work very detailed with no wear, the only negative is that the pin feels a little loose. I would say great care should be taken if worn but perfect in someones collection, certainly a piece to be admired. PLEASE SEE DETAILED PHOTOS

Will be delivered in gift box like those pictured.

N.B. Images are not to scale, items will appear larger in photos, this is not to deceive but to show all possible detail. Please see measurements for size.
